Get comfortable with discomfort
This work is hard. You will be uncomfortable sometimes.
I have been teaching people to look more critically at oppression in the world and in themselves since 2020. I have particular interest and experience in teaching Jewish people about racism and teaching both Jews and non-Jews about antisemitism.
I start all of my facilitation about oppression with the fundamental truth that all people are inherently good and that oppressive systems and structures are layered on top of that goodness. In other words, you are a good person and also guilty or racism and/or antisemitism. Both statements are true, and that’s okay. We can target oppression in ourselves and others without throwing away the people who’ve been conditioned to perpetuate it.
I've developed curricula on my own and with trusted partners
Clients include the Baltimore Jewish Council, Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, the Elijah Cummings Youth Program, and the University of Maryland Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
I also am a trained facilitator for the Dismantling Racism from the Inside Out curriculum developed by Kirva (Rabbi David Jaffe and Yehudah Webster).
I was co-host, with April N. Baskin, of The Joyous Justice Podcast (née Jews Talk Racial Justice) for most of its run.
My key skills as an educator and facilitator:
I find metaphors that help make abstract concepts more concrete and therefore digestible.
I recognize the nuance and complexity of oppressive systems and the ways they show up in individuals, groups, and society.
Eco-Friendly Design
Multilingual Functionality
I try hard to meet my participants where they are, and help them do the hard work of examining and rearranging the mental habits that socialization and conditioning has taught us is natural.
